Anonymous Coward writes, I met one of the
actors from SG1 at a Sci-Fi/Horror convention
yesterday. He told me that in addition to the
upcoming sixth season airing, they have gotten
the OK to start planning a feature film. I could
not find any additional official info on the SG1
website. I don’t want to mention the actor’s name
because I don’t want to get him in trouble in
case this is a leaked secret. I read this
rumour a week ago or so. It was probably on Ain’t It Cool
News, home of one of the Web’s worst search
engines. If anyone knows of another site that’s
reporting this, post the URL below.

Marvel Movies
The IGN FilmForce has an article here talking about two Marvel Comics movie properties involving Ray Park, Iron Fist and X-Men 2. No mention of the other big Marvel properties, though. (And I was so hoping to somehow work in that Sam Raimi, director of Spider-Man, is celebrating his 42nd birthday today.)
Movie Reviews: The Phantom Menace
I picked up The Phantom Menace on DVD
this week. Here’s my review of the movie, and my
comments on the DVD itself.
Final Fantasy DVD Preview
It came and went from the theatres so fast that it may have been easy to miss. (Heck, I missed it. I feel so ashamed.) Fortunately, “Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within” comes to DVD a week from Tuesday (23 October). Is it worth the buy? First, read our review of the movie itself, then read IGN’s preview of the DVD and its many special features.
Ringworld movie update
I’ve just heard from someone who talked to Larry
Niven himself. (She’s one of the people who
co-adminstrates http://www.larryniven.org,
an unofficial fan site.) She says: “He does not
confirm this report, but says that it is not
accurate. He did not give more details.” It
sounds like the first person (who sent the e-mail
to someone on the Larry Niven discussion e-mail
list), from which it spread across the Web, may
have been making things up. So, all we have is
past confirmations that Robert Mandel owns the
rights, and Phil Tippett is interested. James
Cameron’s involvement cannot be confirmed, and is
starting to look like it’s simply not true.
Ringworld movie one step closer
The announcement was made by Larry Niven himself
at Albacon this weekend. As of 12:30amET on
October 6, Robert Mandel, Larry Niven, and James
Cameron have made a deal to permit James Cameron
to make a Ringworld movie. No other details are
available yet, but I’ll keep you posted.
Matrix: The Oracle Dies
First Aaliyah, now this… maybe “The Matrix: Reloaded” just isn’t meant to be. Gloria Foster, the actress who played the enigmatic, cookie-baking Oracle in “The Matrix” died last weekend. Most of her scenes for the second movie had already been completed, according to The
Wire, but not those for the third movie.
Can the late Aaliyah still act?
At the risk of being insensitive, this petition is just kooky. They could get away with keeping Brandon Lee in “The Crow” because the film was more-or-less done, but Aaliyah had only filmed a few scenes in “The Matrix: Reloaded” before her untimely death last month. Is keeping her scenes in the movie a fitting tribute to a fine R&B singer and budding actress, or is it just something out of a bad Monty Python sketch?
2001: It’s About Time
Now that 2001 is officially on its way out, Warner Brothers is finally getting around to re-releasing a “digitally enhanced” version of the Kubrick classic “2001: A Space Odyssey.” According to the press release, though, it looks like it’ll only be released in a few cities, and I’m not near any of ’em.
Samuel Arkoff, low-budget Hollywood producer, dies
Samuel Z. Arkoff, a maverick Hollywood producer who churned out more than
500 low-budget — and often hugely profitable — cult movies, died of
natural causes Sunday, his son Louis said. He was 83.
