DC is launching a new line of continuity in the form of hardcovers, effectively collecting an entire story arc at once. The first is out, written by J. Michael Straczynski with Shane Davis on pencils.

Batman 3 Gets a Title but Nixes a Villain
Christopher Nolan has announced the title for his third Batman movie: The Dark Knight Rises.
Along with killing 3D for filming (yea!), he’s also said that Edward Nygma aka The Riddler will not be the villain used in this film.
So, keeping in mind Nolan’s desire to keep these films “grounded in reality,” what villain do you think he’ll go with?
Comic Review – “Math, Science, and Unix Underpants”
Bill Amend paid for the tuition of his physics degree by working in a movie theatre. I paid for the textbooks for the first part my first physics degree by working in a movie theatre. I’ve always found his strip resonated with me, and this collection includes many of the strips that demonstrate exactly why.

Comic Review – Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 8: Cats & Kings
Believe it or not, I do read mainstream superhero comics. I tend to be more of a DC version, and to be honest, I tend to prefer things by Trade Paperback rather than by individual issue. Additionally, I tend not to upgrade my individual issues to trade paperback form, for strange personal reasons. So, I normally don’t review mainstream supers comics that are on my pull list.

It wasn’t always this way. The Tales of the Jedi series, which came out contemporaneously with Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire series, and the end of the EU drought. But, were these actually good, or was their reception the “OMG New Star Wars !!!!111!1!” talking? Continue reading →
Comic Review – Star Wars Omnibus: X-Wing Rogue Squadron Vol. 1
So, with that long-winded title, we come to what is, to my knowledge, the first Star Wars comic review at Bureau42. If I’m wrong, I apologize. This review is of the first omnibus volume from Dark Horse comics of their X-Wing: Rogue Squadron series. Continue reading →
Comic Review – Nightschool Vol. 1
When I was attending Kumoricon this year, attended a Q&A panel held by Svetlana Chmakova, one the new wave of Western artists following in the footsteps of Adam Warren and Fred Perry by putting out OEL (or Original English Language) manga. At the panel I learned about Chmakova’s latest work, an Urban Fantasy series being published through Yen Press, with chapters being serialized through their magazine. I’ve liked her not quite genre (but fandom related) series DramaCon, so I’ve picked up the first installment. Continue reading →
