Sci-Fi Was King this Weekend

Sci-fi films took the top three spots in box office sales at that movies this weekend. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 in first, Big Hero 6 in second, and Interstellar in third.

Mockingjay, Part 1 also takes the title of best opening weekend for 2014. Transformers: Age of Extinction previously had that distinction.

So what do you think of the current box office king. Did the third Hunger Games improve upon the gains made by the second film?

The reviews have been lukewarm to say the least and no one here in the Bureau has plans to got see the latest offering from Pixar (that’s pretty telling, right there).

Anyone out there see it? What did you think? Has Pixar finally manufactured its first clunker? Or is it merely a case of reviewers finally finding a small chink in the giant’s flawless armor?

“Tron Legacy” Director wants to reimagine “The Black Hole”

MTV is reporting that Joseph Kosinski, the director of the upcoming sequel to Tron would like to next work on an re-imagining of Disney’s other big Sci-Fi film, “The Black Hole”. His plan for the film would involve take a more hard Sci-Fi take on the story, taking advantage of more recent scientific discoveries and theories about the nature of black holes and how they work. The script is doe to be written by Travis Beacham, who wrote the re-make of “Clash of the Titans” that is due in theaters this year.

Roy Disney, Dead at 79

Various outlets are reporting itRoy E.  Disney, nephew of Walt Disney, has passed away from Stomach Cancer. Roy worked for his Uncle and Father’s company as an editor, screenwriter, and producer in the 1950’s and went on to be head of Disney Animation during a period that brought the company back from near extinction with films like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.

He’s also known for several battles within the company. As a major shareholder, he deposed two company Presidents and fought to keep the company’s quality from dropping to, what he thought, were unacceptable levels.
