Weekend Review – Kamen Rider: The First

In terms of Tokusatsu (Japanese Special Effects Films & Series) especially those of the Henshin (transforming) hero sub-genre, there are a 3 main franchises. A holy trinity that has stood the test of time. One of these – the Super Sentai Franchise – isn’t available in the US in its original form, instead being available in the localized form of the Power Ranger series. Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla Design Revealed!

I’ll be starting my “dispatches from Comic-Con” posts pretty soon, but first, I wanted to post a story that I missed at the con, while wandering the massive Exhibit Hall.

At their booth on the show floor, Legendary Pictures unveiled the character design for Godzilla in their upcoming movie. You can see the pictures at comingsoon.net. I’m pleased to say that rather then being the smaller, leaner, “meaner” Godzilla-In-Name-Only from the Roland Emmerich film, this has a much more traditional Godzilla Design. At this time we have no information about whether Godzilla will be, as with tradition, a man in a suit, if he’ll be a CGI performer generated using Motion Capture, or if he’ll just be fully CGI. Pitch Trailer for “Mortal Kombat Rebirth” out

Earlier this week Mortal Kombat fans were rather surprised to find a trailer online for something calling itself “Mortal Kombat Rebirth”. The trailer, done entirely in live-action, featured actors Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, and took a much more realistic take on the franchise. Over the days after the trailer, from various sources we’ve put together where the trailer came from and why. Details and embedded video of the trailer below the cut.
