GenreCon

Bored this weekend? Looking for something to do? Somewhere in the general vicinity of Sarnia, Ontario?

Well, this Saturday, May 30, the Sarnia Library hosts the third annual GenreCon, a series of panel discussions on issues in writing and genre fiction. Guests include Hugo-winning SF author Robert J. Sawyer (whose Hominids is reviewed here), Hugo-nominated Blind Lake author Robert Charles Wilson, mystery writers Vicki Delany and Julia Vryheid, nerd icon wannabee the Timeshredder, and many more.

Weekly Comics Discussion – Wednesday, April 27, 2005

This week’s shipping
list
includes such gems as New Avengers
#5
and Supreme Power #16, which are the
only two I plan to pick up this week. Others will
probably enjoy Ultimate Secret #2,
Wolverine: Enemy of the State Vol. 1 (in
hardcover), Marvel Masterworks: Amazing Spider-Man
Vol. 7
, Daredevil #72, Exiles
#63
(which Tony Bedard promised would include a
confrontation with the Timebroker, something I’ll
catch in July’s trade paperback), Rising Stars
Vol. 3: Fire and Ash
(which finishes that
series), and Green Arrow: City Walls in TPB
form.

Review: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (radio)

Thus begins a four day long debacle in which I review each of the Hitchhiker’s Guide incarnations in turn.

Today, class, we’re going to be talking about the one that started it all, the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy radio play, Primary Phase (this refers to the portion recorded before the publication of the books). If you’re a fan and you haven’t heard it, you owe it to yourself to go get it.

Serenity Trailer Tuesday

Full details can be found straight from Joss Whedon’s
keyboard: the
Serenity trailer hits the web on Tuesday
. He
also says that the same trailer will hit theaters on
Friday, though he hasn’t confirmed which ones. These
things are usually paired to another release by the
same studio, but Universal Pictures (who picked up the
movie rights from Fox and actually made the thing;
kudos to them!) doesn’t have any releases that
weekend, so there may not be guarantees on any
particular print. Still, there would be no
prohibitions, either, and Hitch Hiker’s Guide To
The Galaxy
is a mighty logical choice. If I were
still a projectionist, I’d pair those up.
