The nominations for the 2009 Academy Awards are out. Among the Genre nominations on there are Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight in the Supporting Actor category, Brad Pitt for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in the Leading Actor category, Kung Fu Panda and Wall-E for Best Animated Feature, Best Original Screenplay for Wall-E and a host of technical nominations (as usual).

Roland Emmerich to direct Foundation
SciFi Wire is reporting that Sony Columbia has won the film rights to Issac Asimov’s Foundation saga. Roland Emmerich (Stargate, Independence Day, the Godzilla remake, The Day After Tomorrow) is slated to direct.

Video Game Review – R-Types (PS1 – as released on PSN)
Another video game review for you all – this time a collection of a couple classing side scrolling shoot-em up games, R-Type 1 & 2, as re-released on Playstation Network (as an emulated version of a PS1 game – which is almost $20 cheaper than buying it off E-Bay).
Teaser Poster for “Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen”
Yahoo! Movies has put up the new Teaser poster for the second Transformers movie. The poster appears to consist of the Decepticon insignia.
Matt Smith IS The Doctor
The BBC has announced that actor Matt Smith, age 26 will be the next actor to take on the role of The Doctor, after David Tennant regenerates.
The final of the four special episodes of Doctor Who with Tennant as The Doctor will run in early 2010 – presumably the regeneration will be in that episode, putting Tennant’s run as The Doctor (2005-2010) at approximately 4 years, on par with John Pertwee’s run (1970-1974).
Funimation Licenses New Evangelion Movie, Soul Eater
Funimation, to wrap up the year, has announced two new licenses after announcing 10 new licenses over the last 10 days. Their new licenses are Media Factory’s shonen series Soul Eater, which they will be releasing in four half-season sets, and the first of four new films re-making/re-telling Neon Genesis Evangelion, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone.

Three Genre Films added to National Film Registry
25 more films were added to the National Film Registry of The Library of Congress today by the National Film Preservation Board, bringing the total number of films to 500. Of the 25 films added, three were genre – The 1933 version of The Invisible Man (directed by James Whale and starring Claude Rains), the 1958 film The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (directed by Nathan H. Juran with special effects by Ray Harryhausen), and The Terminator. The first link has the full list of 25 (as there is some other good stuff on there too).
Judge Rules In Favor of Fox in Watchman Film Suit
The New York Times is reporting that the judge in the 20th Century Fox vs. Warner Brothers case has said that he intends to rule in favor of Fox’s claim that it holds a copyright interest in Warner Bros film adaptation of Watchmen
This came out in a 5-page written order issued today (December 24th) by the presiding judge, Gary Feess, with a longer ruling forthcoming with more information. Feess, in his ruling advises Fox and Warner to either come to a settlement or appeal. No word as yet (as this story, basically, just broke) on what Warner Bros next move will be, and what this will mean for the film.
