Berman Backstabs Coto
shayward writes, A TGL report here has excerpts of an interview with Rick Berman. He says that some of the more verbal fans believe “that when we took Manny Coto and we promoted him from co – executive producer to executive producer that he just suddenly took over and it became The Manny Coto Show.” He goes on to say, “That’s just nonsense.” He also indicates that he and Braga were just as involved with scripts and stories as they were previous to Season 4.
Backstab may be a bit strong a word, but this article makes it painfully clear this man hasn’t the foggiest clue what’s going within his own series and why fans are turning away from Trek and villifying him. To quote: “It’s going away because it has endured for so long. It’s paradoxical.” Yeah Rick, kind of like your writing.

Orson Scott Card: Trek is dead? It’s about time!

writes, Orson Scott Card, author of Ender’s Game
amongst many outstanding Sci-Fi novels, has thrown
down the gauntlet in the L.A.
Times and said that it’s about time that Trek has
died. What took so long?
Star Trek, as Card claims, is Sci-Fi as Hollywood saw
it, a throwback to the 30’s adventure stories with no
regard for science or deeper ideas and little interest
in plot arcs or character growth.
That writers like Ellison, LeGuin, Silverberg, Niven
and more were pumping out outstanding science fiction
stories with fertile passion makes the public’s near
religious adulation of Star Trek all the more
questionable. Faced today with examples such as
“Lost”, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Firefly” and
“Smallville” to put the spotlight on just how bad Trek
really is, people are still fighting to save this
show.
So I ask you, does the death of Trek fill you with
childish glee or are you storming Paramount’s gates,
Batleths drawn?

Brannon Braga on Killing Enterprise
shayward writes, A TGL report here has a quote from Brannon Braga in response to fans that say he killed Enterprise with crappy writing. \”There’s a small but vocal group of people who have been lambasting me ever since \’Next Generation\’.\” I would like to point out that his writing and producing weren\’t always as bad as they were for Voyager and Enterprise.
Enterprise Is Dead, Jim
rickyjames writes, I just had to use that title. Startrek.com has posted text of a letter from Paramount Pictures stating that the fan campaign to save Enterprise has been appreciated but ultimately uncuccessful. The decision to cancel Enterprise is \”final\”.
Brannon Braga Speaks at Claremont College

Among other things, Braga feels that Star Trek is
still about examining the human condition, that
Enterprise is a character-driven show that maybe
didn’t click with audiences, and is generally
uncertain about why Enterprise failed.
Braga also claims to have a photographic memory when
it comes to continuity and knows all of the
episodes. I suppose the latter may be possible.
There is a subtle but important difference between
ignorance of continuity and blatant disregard for
continuity.
