From the really f—ed up mind of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp plays the famous candy maker in this latest version. Something tells me that the boat ride scene in the original will be a footnote to this whole film’s creepyness.
War of the Worlds Teaser Online
In Quicktime format on Apple.com
Not really sold on this one. Do we need another remake? I loved the book and the 1953 version is a Sci-Fi masterpiece.
Oh, and did anyone other than me watch the uber-creepy TV series?
Christmas Countdown Begins
Starting tomorrow morning, we’ll have a Christmas
Countdown, much like the Halloween countdown we ran
a while back. (This one will only last two weeks,
though.) Most of the Christmas specials we grew up
watching will be reviewed, as well as a couple of
movies. The schedule can be found here.
The only thing that may seem to be missing is a
review of It’s a Wonderful Life. We
reviewed that in 2002.
Have a happy Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas,
Kwanza, and/or Gurnenthar’s Ascendance!
Lost Discussion – “All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues”
A second visit to the good doctor’s past as He, Boone, Kate, and Locke search for Charlie and Claire, presumably kidnapped by the “extra survivor.”
Episode Summary from ABC.com
No new episode next week. Instead ABC will be running “Pilot” parts 1 and 2. Here’s your chance to pick up from the beginning if your new, or re-examine clues for the veterans.
Comic Review – “X-Men: The End: Book One: Dreamers and Demons”
The final story of the X-Men has begun.

Babylon 5 movie on the way.
Reports like this
Cinescape article are coming in to confirm old
rumours. Babylon 5: The Memory of Shadows
will begin filming in April, based on a script
written by J. Michael Straczynski. It will include
the character of Galen, already familiar to those who
caught the Babylon 5: Crusade spinoff of a
few years ago. (No casting announcements have been
made, but I haven’t seen Peter Woodward working on
anything else lately.) Expect a review the morning
after it premiers.
Smallville Discussion – “Covenant / Crusade”
Tonight we get two reruns instead of a new episode of Smallville. The specific episodes are the season three finale and the season four premier, so we’ll see the introduction of Kara and Lois.
Weekly Comics Discussion
Another week, another round of comics. This will be
a light week for me, with only Doctor Spectrum
#4 and X-Men: The End Book One #6
coming in.
Short Films Review – “Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume Two”
Between the 60 in this set and the 56 included in the
first volume, we now have 116 Looney Tunes cartoons
carefully restored and in excellent shape. At the
rate of one volume a year, we’ve got at least a
decade to go before we have them all. I can’t wait.

The Confusion
This volume contains two novels, Bonanza and Juncto, that take place concurrently during the span 1689-1702. Rather than present one, then the other… I have interleaved sections of one with sections of the other so that the two stories move forward in synchrony. It is hoped that being thus con-fused shall render them less confusing to the Reader.

Maybe. Then again, maybe not.
