Now it’s time for me to come back to the Tokyo Babylon reviews, with the series’ 3rd to last volume. As the series starts to come to a close, does it continue to provide some social commentary on the state of Japan (when the stories were written), or does the series push that aside in favor of the main plot? Video Game Review – Prince of Persia (PS3)
A couple years ago, Ubisoft did a brief reboot to the Prince of Persia franchise–one which, from what’s been released about the next game, will probably be a one off thing. The game was criticized by some Hardcore Gamers (I feel like I put a “z” at the end of that for some reason) for being too easy, for not having enough combat. Some time has past since the game came out and now I’ve gotten my hands on it, and I’ve beaten it – the Epilogue DLC too. So, it’s time for me to give my thoughts on the definitive Prince of Persia experience. After hearing all the negative buzz, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Note: This review includes notes on the Epilogue DLC Continue reading →
Record of Lodoss War Rescued By Media Blasters
I’ve previously reviewed Record of Lodoss War, and, since the demise of Central Park Media I’ve called for someone to re-licence it. Finally, at last, my prayers have been answered. Central Park Media News was first to report (with articles from Anime News Network coming later) that at long last, Record of Lodoss War has been saved from Limbo by Media Blasters. Not only has the OVA series that I’ve previously reviewed been licensed, but the follow-up television series which hews a little closer to the books has been rescued as well.
Now the only title on my list of old CPM licences that needs rescuing is the Patlabor OVAs and TV series. My fingers are crossed…
Comic Review – Star Wars Omnibus: Tales of the Jedi, Vol. 1
Kevin J. Anderson used to be considered to have written the worst works of fiction in the Star Wars prior to the release of the prequels. After the prequels the spot is held by either Karen “Jedi are Scum” Traviss or by George Lucas himself, depending on who you ask.
It wasn’t always this way. The Tales of the Jedi series, which came out contemporaneously with Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire series, and the end of the EU drought. But, were these actually good, or was their reception the “OMG New Star Wars !!!!111!1!” talking? Continue reading →
Anime Review – Ah! My Goddess Season 1
So, being that today is Valentine’s Day, it seems apropos to have a review of a romantic comedy that’s also genre. In this case, it’s the most recent adaptation of the long running romantic comedy manga “Ah! My Goddess”. Well, the first season anyway.
Weekly Digital Disk Picks for February 16th, 2010
So, despite the DVD releases coming out on Fat Tuesday, the picks this week are rather lean. There are a few gems in there though.
“Tron Legacy” Director wants to reimagine “The Black Hole”
MTV is reporting that Joseph Kosinski, the director of the upcoming sequel to Tron would like to next work on an re-imagining of Disney’s other big Sci-Fi film, “The Black Hole”. His plan for the film would involve take a more hard Sci-Fi take on the story, taking advantage of more recent scientific discoveries and theories about the nature of black holes and how they work. The script is doe to be written by Travis Beacham, who wrote the re-make of “Clash of the Titans” that is due in theaters this year.
TheAngryMob reviewed the original back in 2005.
Video Game Review – Ghostbusters (PS3)
Last year we finally got what could best be described as the 3rd installment of the Ghostbusters series. It was written by the writers of the films, and got the original actors who played the four Ghostbusters back together. Why didn’t you see it in theaters? Because it was a video game. Now I’ve played it, so now I’m gonna review it. No, I’m not going to reference the Ghostbusters theme song in the intro.

Weekly Digital Disk Picks, for February 9th, 2010
This week we have the Super Bowl in the US, and the start of the Olympic games. So, while this week isn’t exactly lean, it’s not as heavy as last week, in my opinion.
Comic Review – Star Wars Omnibus: X-Wing Rogue Squadron Vol. 1
So, with that long-winded title, we come to what is, to my knowledge, the first Star Wars comic review at Bureau42. If I’m wrong, I apologize. This review is of the first omnibus volume from Dark Horse comics of their X-Wing: Rogue Squadron series. Continue reading →
