Anime News Network reports that Central Park Media, licensors of Mobile Police Patlabor, Grave of the Fireflies, Record of Lodoss War, Project A-Ko, Armored Trooper Votoms, and many other shows and films has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Unlike Chapter 11 and 13 bankruptcy – Chapter 7 means that all of CPM/US Manga Corps assets will be liquidated, including their entire back catalog of licences that they still hold.

Comic Review – DC The New Frontier Vol. 1
Previously, we’ve reviewed Justice League: The New Frontier, a direct-to-video animated movie adapted from Darwyn Cooke’s graphic novel, taking the Silver Age and re-spinning it to reflect the real-world politics of the time, and some more modern sensabilities. At the time of that review, we hadn’t done a review of the much longer graphic novel on which the comic was based. We’re rectifying that now with a review of part 1, with part 2 to follow next week. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for X-Box 360 & PS3 Confirmed!
The rumors have been brewing for quite some time, and at last we have conformation – Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 will be coming to the X-Box 360 through XBLA (X-Box Live Arcade) and to the Playstation 3 through Playstation Network.
The game will have it’s full roster, plus the addition of online multiplayer. Presumably the 360 and PS3 versions will have Achivements and Trophies, respectively.
The trailer can be found here.
Weekend Review – Mobile Police Patlabor: New Files (OVA)
This weekend we continue with the reviews of the Patlabor Franchise, with the OVA (Original Video Animation) sequel to the TV Series reset. Does it bear up to the spinoff and the source material, or as Ota does oh so often, does it miss the mark?
Weekend Review – Mobile Police Patlabor (TV)
Our weekend review for this week continues with the Mobile Police Patlabor franchise, this time with the franchise’s first reset for it’s first (and, technically, only) TV series (and it’s a long one too.)
Weekend Review – Dragonball: Evolution
Well, I’m reviewing a new release for once. While it’s still in theaters even. The live-action adaptation of Akira Toriyama’s classic anime and manga Dragonball is now in theaters, will this be better than the last adaptation of Dragonball? Will it better than the live-action adaptation of Fist Of The North Star? Or will this be one really big stinkburger.
Video Game Review – Worms (PS3)
One of my video game franchises, Worms has finally come to the Playsation Network. Some of it’s previous console outings, particularly to hand-held systems have been hit-or-miss. So, does this installment in the franchise blow itself up, or does it get a triple-kill?
Len Wein (Creator of Swamp Thing) has lost his house
It never rains but it pours.
Comic Book Resources is reporting that the house of Len Wein, the creator of Swamp Thing and Lucius Fox for DC and Wolverine for Marvel, and DC’s editor during Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen, has burned down – over half the house was a complete loss, and his dog was killed as well. Wein was largely working as a freelancer at the time of the fire, so these are tough times for him.
CBR will have details on how we can help as soon as they are available.
Mandalay Pictures has rights to Full Metal Panic
The Hollywood Reporter is, well, reporting that Mandalay Pictures (the people who brought you “Enemy at the Gates”) has licenced the US film rights for Full Metal Panic. (Our review of the first series in the franchise is here.)
Aaron Alliston in the hospital for surgery.
In addition to game designer Dave Arneson being in the hospital due to his cancer worsening, the official Star Wars blog is reporting Aaron Alliston is in the hospital as well, undergoing a quadrupal bypass surgery. If you want to help, there are two ways you can do it:
- Alliston’s family has started a blood donation sponsorship – if you are in the Dallas area you can go to Carter BloodCare center, or the National Blood Exchange, and say you’d like to donate blood for Aaron Alliston, a Carter BloodCare patient, and give his sponsor number – SPON 047786.
- You can send cards (but not perishable items or flowers) to

I’d like to wish Aaron a speedy recovery, and in general I hope he gets well soon.
