“The X-Files” DVD season 9 and price drop today
Just a reminder, the final season of “The X-Files” is
out on DVD today, and it’s bringing a price drop on
all other seasons along with it. The sets still cost
more than your average TV on DVD product, but they’re
considerably cheaper than they were yesterday. (The
initial high price had two main reasons; it was the
first show to be released in full season packages in
a time when movies were still about $30, so they had
a higher price in that market, and because they’re
released in region 1 before region 2, unlike many
shows, so they couldn’t use overseas markets to
recover the DVD authoring costs. The prices stuck
around as long as fans were willing to pay that
much.)
Charmed Discussion – “Reality Check” (new) / “Hyde School Reunion” (rerun)
Charmed has a double-header on tap for tonight, with
a new episode followed by a rerun.
Saturn Awards released
Lord of the Rings cleaned house at the
Saturn awards for films, while Angel was the
big winner for TV shows. Firefly won the
Saturn award for best DVD release of a TV show. This
Cinescape page has the full list of winners,
which is considerably longer than these three titles.

Comic Review – “Essential Daredevil Vol. 2”
The first of Marvel’s recent Essential ramp-up is now
reviewed. Essential Tomb of Dracula Vol. 2
is out as well, to be followed in the next three
months by Essential X-Men Vol. 5,
Essential Spider-Man Vol. 6, and
Essential Avengers Vol. 4. It looks like
Marvel wants to release an Essential each month now,
which makes me very happy. (Rumours of more
Fantastic Four, and some Invaders and/or Defenders
stuff are about.)

Weekly Comics Discussion
This week, we have Exiles #46, which is a
part of the X-Men Reload event. (I’ll
review the previous batch before the TPB comes out.)
We’ve also got a new issue of Ultimate
Spider-Man, developing the Hollywood story arc.
Smallville Discussion – “Talisman” (new)
John Schneider is directing this week’s episode.
Let’s see how he fares behind the camera.
Charmed Discussion – “Stormy Leather” (new)
Phoebe goes undercover as a dominatrix. These people
don’t even pretend the show would still be on the air
if they had cast unattractive women, do they?
Comic Review – “Ultimates Vol. 2: Homeland Security”
When it takes three months to get an issue out, one
asks oneself if the wait is worth it. After reading
this, I think I’ll continue to wait for the trade
paperbacks.
