Review: Secret Path
Tragically Hip frontman Gordon Downie and Canuck comix auteur Jeff Lemire joined forces to create this graphic / musical collaboration, based on the story of Chanie Wenjack, who died just before Halloween, 1966 trying to escape a Residential School for Native children.
Profits from this 2015 work go to the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba.
The project has been performed as a live concert, and also exists as an animated film:

Graphic Collection Review: Killing and Dying
If I had to describe Adrian Tomine to someone who didn’t know his work, I would call him – I can’t possibly conjure any higher praise – the Alice Munro of comics.
–Rachel Cooke, The Guardian
Adrian Tomine released this collection a little over a year ago. A New York Times bestseller, its six stories reveal key moments and revelations in the lives of ordinary people.
DC/Hanna-Barbera Crossover Madness
Many years ago, I suggest in a list of possible Elseworlds tales the ultimate ridiculous premise, “Frank Miller’s gritty take on the Banana Splits.”
Well, DC will be crossing its mainstream characters next year with its re-imagined Hanna-Barbera titles. Booster Gold will join forces with the reimagined Flintstones, Green Lantern will team up with Space Ghost, and (although Frank Miller won’t be writing), the Suicide Squad will meet the Banana Splits.
Comic Review: Superman: American Alien
The most-discussed DC comic of last year may be American Alien, written by Max Landis and illustrated by various artists.
Landis, son of a Hollywood director, posted a very funny Youtube video on the 1990s Death and Return of Superman story arc / media event, in which he suggested (among many other things) that very little new could be done with the Man of Steel.
Several screen/teleplays and a handful of comics later, he challenges that notion, at least somewhat, with this series.
Graphic Novel Review: Wilson
“I guess this whole kidnapping thing makes me a little uncomfortable, Wilson.”
Daniel Clowes published Wilson back in 2010 but, with the movie adaptation coming out next year, it seems like time to consider what may be his best work since the groundbreaking Ghost World.
