In 2004, Bryce Zabel and JMS came up with this wacky idea: Reboot Star Trek. Hey, it worked for Battlestar Galactica… Obviously, nothing ever came of it, but it’s still fun to chew on. Zabel’s long writeup on the proposal, and I’ve mirrored a copy of the proposal itself here in case of Slashdotting or anything (PDF, 700k).

Damon in next Trek?
Cunning_Linguist writes, According to Sci-Fi Wire, there is a rumor about him playing a young Kirk in it.
Actually, the rumor originates from “The Insider” so take it for what it’s worth. With Trek rumors, you just have to take it with a grain of salt unless you hear from the person in question, or see a press release from Paramount. In either case, what do you all make of this news?

Trek 11 Information Misreported?
According to Empire, J. J. Abrams has stated the information about Star Trek XI was released without the consent of anybody actually involved in the production. It seems that he is producing a Trek movie, and ‘has the option to direct it’, but isn’t saying anything on what it will actually be about. He doesn’t rule out the Kirk and Spock story, but there is hope again.
Berman Not Part Of Trek 11

Rick Berman will not
be involved with the next Star Trek movie.
Just confirming what was strongly implied by last week’s
news.
J.J. Abrams to direct Star Trek XI
According to Variety, J.J. Abrams (director of Mission: Impossible 3) is at the helm of the next Star Trek movie. The movie is to be another prequel, this time dealing with the first mission of James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock. Damen Lindelof and Bryan Burk, producers of Lost, will also be working on the project.
I find it hard to believe they could do any worse than Berman and Braga… is this the new life for Star Trek that the article claims, or just an attempt to cash in on the prequel success of the Star Wars movies?

Captain Sulu Goes Where No Man Has Gone Before
rickyjames writes, George Takei, aka Sulu of Star Trek : TOS, is now one of the “continuing regular gang” on the new Howard Stern / Sirus satellite radio show. A mere 40 minutes into the show, Takei was discussing his first gay experience… I don’t think it’s news that Takei is gay, but the fact that he’s shilling for Stern might be amusing to some. But, heck, let’s face it, he does have one heckuva radio voice.
TOS and TNG on G4?
Apparently that’s what the Comcast-owned tech channel is trying to do. This is part of a larger rebranding effort on G4’s part to snag the male geek audience. No word on if this means Sci-Fi will lose TOS and Spike will lose TNG. More from Sci-Fi Wire.
