The second series of The Terror continues in its uneven manner, with government-ordered oppression in the foreground and a supernatural mystery lurking in the background.

The Terror: Infamy– “A Sparrow in a Swallow’s Nest”
No reasonable sequel could exist to AMC’s The Terror, a brilliant series crafted from Dan Simmons’s supernatural take on historical events. However, its success means The Terror is now an ongoing anthology series. This season, “Infamy,” switches location to Los Angeles, 1941, and makes its supernatural shadings clear from the opening.
Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2019 July 21
The heat of summer hasn’t slowed the few programs down at all. Legion reminds us how strong he is as he goes to war. Supergrandad continues his war against Zod as the God/Zod puns continue. Sherlock Holmes faces, or possibly works with, a god. The Swamp Thing is anatomically correct. The SHIELD Agents revisit their past.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2019 July 14
Summer continues to stretch on, hopefully allowing you plenty of time to enjoy the small tidbits of genre television we are getting. Legion continues to try to cause some paradoxes, while Supergrandad fights the paradox he’s been trapped in all season. Elementary further explores the Joan/Sarek connection. Swamp Thing reveals his heroism. At S.H.I.E.L.D., their victory party winds down when they realize they still have a lot to clean up.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2019 July 7
I wouldn’t call it a dull week, but the studios certainly think we have better things to do than watch television. I don’t of course, so I am still digging through Stranger Things. We’ll take a break for the crazy of Legion, and to watch the hostage negotiation on Krypton. Sherlock and Joan revisit their past crimes solved, and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finish their two-parter. (The other shows aren’t giving me a synopsis, so they don’t get mentioned.)

Stranger Things Review: “Suzie, Do You Copy” and “The Mall Rats”
Stranger Things dropped its third season on the Fourth of July. We’ll review the first two episodes here, and return to discuss the entire show sometime next week, when you’ve all had a chance to watch.
It’s 1985, and the Cold War touches everything– even other dimensions.
Sandman to appear on Netflix
One of the greatest graphic series of all time, Neil Gaiman’s game-changing Sandman, finally, reportedly will receive a live adaptation. It will appear, curiously, on Netflix, and not DC’s own streaming service, and they project it will be the most expensive show DC Entertainment has ever produced.
So will it finally happen? Will it work? And who would make your dream cast?
The Handmaid’s Tale: “Household”
“This is a bit taboo, but I loved your book.”
Season Three continues with a remarkable cast and strong production values, but I fear I hear the distant sound of a boat engine revving, with the driver and a leather-jacketed skier eyeing a certain jump.
Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2019 June 30
We get an extra day off this week in the United States to fire off Chinese inventions to celebrate Brexit 1776, the breakup with the country that is typically its closest ally. We’ll need that extra time as Stranger Things season 3 drops. Legion continues giving us his brand of artful crazy, Young Justice returns, the Handmaid still has a tail, Supergrandpa returns to his Zod controlled home on Krypton, Sherlock and Joan investigate the criminals’ criminal, Swamp Thing learns to talk, and the SHIELD Agents get their own Gah Lak Tus.
But serious, who cares, Stranger Things is back!
