I’ve come to realize that I haven’t deliberatly reviewed anything that was widly considered to be a “bad” film after a while. As someone who has seen most of the first movie, and listened to the soundtrack (and heard good things about the magazine), I have decided to give Heavy Metal 2000 a try. Is it your one-way ticket to midnight, or does it take you someplace worse? Continue reading →

Women not wanted for IGN Contest
Tor.com is reporting that the rules for IGN’s contest to promote the science fiction film Section 9, about extra-terrestrials in Johannesburg, South Africa being denied rights and being declared “not human,” explicitly exclude women from participating.
The contest, which gets the winner a trip to the San Diego Comic Con, and would also entail that he participate in promotion of the film, says in its rules “This sweepstakes is open only to males who are both legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and Washington D.C. and who are at least between 18-24 years of age as of July 23, 2009…” (Emphasis is mine.) At the Box Office: Up Stays…well…Up
The latest Pixar film holds the top spot for its second week, with “The Hangover” coming in a close second.
Meanwhile, Will Ferrill’s run as Box Office Catnip may be over with his latest (and widely advertised) “Land of the Lost” coming in a distant third.
Also of note, Star Trek is still running in the top 5, and with $222 million to date is still the highest grossing film of 2009. Yeah. A Star Trek film. Highest grossing of the year. At some point all those words in one sentence will parse in my brain.

Trailer Park Tuesday – June 2, 2009
Another Tuesday, another trailer round-up. Very light this week.
Weekend Review: Up
An old curmudgeon, faced with a difficult turn of events, waves the world good-bye in a manner only possible in fantasy. The old man does what we might do in the same situation, if reality allowed it to happen.
Of course, his escape doesn’t happen easily. An eager and somewhat nerdy Boy Scout Wilderness Scout gets stuck along for the ride, and adventure awaits them in a lost world.
Trailer Park Tuesday – May 26, 2009
Some movies I hadn’t ever heard of until this week.
My pick of the week goes to the new trailer for “9.” Looks just awesome!
Movie Discussion: Terminator: Salvation
The latest Terminator film has neither Ahrnold nor Summer Glau, but it does boast mind-warping time-travel, eye-catching effects, and costly explosions.
