CW-DC Universe Discussion

Supergirl, “Homecoming”
Kara and Alex’s father returns– but he appears to be working for Lillian Luthor. Supergirl and Mon-El’s relationship takes a serious turn, but it appears he‘s keeping a secret his new girlfriend won’t like.

Question: What sort of contraceptives do superhumans use? I’m asking for a friend.

Arrow, “Fighting Fire with Fire”

Team Arrow encounter double problems with Helix and Vigilante.

Legends of Tomorrow
takes a week off, but they’re visiting the “Land of the Lost” in the next ep. I wonder if they’ll rescue Rick, Will, and Holly?

The Flash will receive its own review this week. I’m still hoping for a purple gorilla in the crowd.1

DC-CW Discussion: Legends, “Camelot/3000” and Arrow, “The Sin Eater”

Legends of Tomorrow: “Camelot/3000”
The Legends play “Connecticut Yankee,” with even less historical accuracy than usual. We expect nothing less from a story set in Ye Olde Arthurian Times; at least, this time, the writers have an explanation for the anachronisms.

Arrow: “The Sin Eater”
The Team take on a metahuman girl gang, and authorities seek the Green Arrow… because he’s wanted for murder.

The Flash receives his own review, later today.

DC-CW Discussion: Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow

Supergirl: “The Martian Chronicles”
A ray of hope shines for fans, as this fairly well-done episodes pits Supergirl and her Martian associates against a bounty hunter from the red planet.

Legends of Tomorrow: “Turncoat”
The Legends travel to 1776 when they realize something’s wrong with Washington.

Arrow: “Bratva”
Team Arrow heads to Russia; Lance returns from rehab.

CW DCU Discussion: January 30-February 1, 2017

Supergirl: “We Can Be Heroes”
A tighter episode than last week’s sees Supergirl, Mon-El, and Guardian work together when Livewire escapes from prison. Or was she kidnapped?

The Flash: “Dead or Alive”
As Team Flash plot to change Iris’s future, Vibe battles a metahuman bounty hunter for the life of H.R.

Legends of Tomorrow: “The Legion of Doom”
The villainous alliance faces challenges from within as the heroes try to save Rip and history.

Arrow: “Second Chances”
Ollie teams up with Talia al Ghul, Felicity attempts to free Diggle, and the Team encounter the new Black Canary.

CW-DCU Discussions: “Borrowing Problems from the Future,” “Raiders of the Lost Art,” and “Who Are You?”

I have to admire Legends of Tomorrow for completely embracing the crazy. This week, the Legends face off against the Legion of Doom in 1967 over the spear that pierced Jesus’s side– in order to save the career of George Lucas!

Seriously. That was the plot.

A rather grim scene involving the still-living Rip Hunter ends the ep on a different tone.

Meanwhile, on Flash and Arrow….

DC Television Discussion: Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow

Supergirl: “Survivors”
The Maid of Might uncovers an alien Fight Club, and we learn something about Miss Martian that won’t be too surprising to comic-book fans, but which may mean something different in the DC TV-verse.

The Flash: “Monster”
Cisco has suspicions about the new Harrison, as the Flash meddles with a mystery that wouldn’t be out of place on Scooby-doo (though the monster itself has a sort of “Alien meets Cloverfield” design). Caitlin gives her mother’s advice the cold shoulder.

Arrow: “Targets”
Church, shockingly, learns the Arrow’s identity, and Ollie must take desperate actions.

Legends of Tomorrow: “Abominations”
The Legends battle zombies during the Civil War. Does anyone else feel like the episodes this year have premises generated by a game of Mad Libs?

Arrow: “Penance”; Legends of Tomorrow: “Shogun”

This week’s Arrow features a strong action plot, as the team try to rescue a reluctant Diggle. They undercut the story somewhat by having the Ragman needlessly continue on, when he could have easily rescued Wild Dog. It would have made more sense to have Rory stay away from the team just a bit longer, rather than artificially prevent his assistance when it is most needed.

In the flashback, Ollie takes the Bratva’s worst, final test.

On Legends of Tomorrow, the Waverider has a foxy stowaway, Nate proves his mettle, and the Legends are big in Japan.

Flash: “Magenta” Arrow: “A Matter of Trust” Legends of Tomorrow: “The Justice Society of America”

The Flash teams up with Jesse Quick to take on a metal-warping metahuman with anger issues.

Two of Ollie’s new recruits act on their own and, in the process, knock a drug dealer into one of those vats of mutagenic goop lying around the DCU. The team must come together to take on the resulting new metahuman, as Ollie deals with his implausible second life as mayor and Diggle faces imprisonment.

The Legends encounter the Justice Society of America.
