I’ll be out of town next weekend, so this is going up
a week early. It’s a much better list than the August
30 list, anyway.

Weekly DVD Picks – Tuesday, August 30, 2005
There’s not a lot to pick from this week. You might
want to wait a little while before DVD shopping, as
things start to pick up again significantly in
October.

Novel Review: Iron Sunrise
Charles Stross created a fascinating future in Singularity Sky. His second foray into that universe is entertaining, but it lacks the inventiveness and originality of its predecessor.
Brock Peters Dead at 78
Versitile actor, and Star Trek vet, Brock Peters died Tuesday. Renowned in the acting community for his roles in such landmark films as To Kill a Mockingbird and Porgy and Bess, he is best known to today’s Sci-Fi audience for his roles as Adm. Cartwright in Star Trek IV and Star Trek VI in addition to playing Joseph Sisko on “Deep Space Nine.”
No stranger to genre productions, Peters appeared in Soylent Green and the original “Battlestar Galactica” miniseries.
His voice acting credits include “Pirates of Dark Water” and “Batman” as well as the NPR radio play for Star Wars where he voiced Darth Vader.
He was one of those truly “classy” actors that will be sorely missed.
Charlie Jade: Ouroborous
This we did not expect.
–Man in Gray
Charlie Jade comes to a bizarre and ambiguous conclusion.
Weekly Comics Discussion – August 24, 2005
For real this time: the comics coming out this
week include the new issue of Previews,
OMAC project #5, Robin Archives Vol.
1, Superman: The Man of Steel Vol. 4,
Authority Revolution Book 1, and a reprint of
Wonder Woman #219 for the sake of those who
didn’t know it was a key component in one of the DC
pre-Infinite Crisis miniseries. Image is offering a
new chapter in the Rising Stars: Voices of the
Dead miniseries. Marvel is putting forward
Daredevil #76 (which I’ll get in TPB form),
Fantastic Four #530 (which I’ll get right
away), and Ultimate X-Men Annual #1 (which
I’ll also pick up today). A hardcover version of
Marvel Visionaries: Chris Claremont is also
coming out today.
Review: Serenity – World Premier
Lurch Kimded writes, I was blessed (as were 500 other people) to see last night the world premier of Serenity at the Edinburgh Film Festival. The Cast and Joss Whedon attended and did a short Q&A afterwards which was hugely enjoyable… anyway, I though it’d be amiss if I did not try and review this amazing film. I have tried to keep spoilers out of the review so anyone can read it. I read the review before I posted it, and can testify to the mild nature of spoilers. (When I say mild, I mean that the only things revealed here are also revealed in the trailers.)
November Comic Solicitations
The solicitations for November are out, and there are some nice looking items on it. UPDATED: The horribly wrong “weekly comics picks” title has been corrected.

Weekly DVD Picks – August 23, 2005
My home Internet access has vanished once more. (It’s been up for a total of five hours in the past week. Grr.) Thankfully, my parents still have access to theirs, so here I am posting again!
James Marsters on Smallville
James Marsters, Buffy‘s Spike, reportedly will appear in six eps of Smallville as Brainiac. So, will this be the classic green look, the far cooler Terminator skeleton look, or an entirely different version of the character?
