Firefly Activity Surrounds DVD Release

rickyjames
writes, With less than two weeks to go before the
Dec. 9 Firefly DVD release, I thought I’d share some of
the ancillary Firefly activities I’ve been covering over on
(unabashed plug) my
SciScoop website

SFX, a British sci-fi magazine, has an excellent 1

page article full of color photographs, spoiler-free reviews
and Joss’ comments on all the Firefly episodes as well as
some information on the upcoming Firefly movie. Joss
will be discussing the Firefly DVD and upcoming movie at
the L.A. Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention on
December 21. Early
DVD reviews
are giving the DVD package five of five
stars, naturally. A
Firefly fan
has produced a Firefly commentary DVD
project of his own as part of his work towards a Master’s
degree in Communications. His DVD is available via email
request from his webpage, which includes a pretty good
four-minute intro video clip entitled “What Is Firefly?” in
both RealMedia and Windows format. Wavsite as well as
a new, pretty good fanzine site start-up called “Still
Flying
“, which is of course the Firefly motto. Of
particular Also up are some great Firefly
audio clips
at interest in this initial effort are the
extensive list of other Firefly site links and an exclusive
interview with Jewel
Staite/Kaylee
.
I don’t have time to check out all of those links, but
it looks good to me.

Firefly: “Trash.”

Unlike the other writers at Bureau42, I missed Firefly in its original, aborted run. Space started running the episodes in their intended order, and I caught the bug. This week, that run has reached the first of the three “lost” episodes, unaired by Fox. I reckon they’ll be on the forthcoming DVD.

“Family Guy” may come back – hope for “Firefly?”

According to this TV Shows on DVD article, The Family Guy has been selling so well on DVD that it may get resurrected as a TV series. When I read that this morning, I thought “Neat, but not Bureau 42 stuff.” It hit me later today; the network considering this action is the same network that cancelled Firefly, and all episodes of that show to date are being released on DVD on December 9. It seems reasonable to assume the same logic applies: strong DVD sales might bring the show back to life. I say to you: Do YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING HERE!

Firefly DVD Website And Deals Now Up

rickyjames
writes, I wanted to pass on a couple of good things
I’ve heard about the Firefly DVD, which is of course
scheduled to be released on December 9. First, the
official FOX DVD website is now up at
http://www2.foxhome.com/firefly/
. Second, I’ve read
reports that if you go to a brick-and-mortar Suncoast Video
store (NOT their website) that you can preorder the entire
Firefly 4-DVD set for only $19.95. Rumor has it that their
internal store database currently has it listed as a 1 DVD
rather than 4 DVD set, which accounts for the low, low
preorder price (normally $39.95 and up). Naturally, you’d
be nuts not to preorder many, many copies at this price if
true. Check it out at your local mall.
It’s the
second item on my Christmas list (behind the four-disk set
of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.)

Firefly DVD Preorders Top Amazon List

rickyjames writes, Fans of ‘Firefly’ can now pre-order ‘Firefly: Complete Series’ from AMAZON.COM. Initial response has been impressive, with the preorders making the DVD skyrocket to near the top of the Amazon DVD Top Seller List (a ranking which may or may not last, but is still cool and might help sell the idea of a movie). The DVD set contains all episodes of Firefly, including the three that were never aired in the US, and the notorious Firefly gag reel. Also included are loads of interviews and commentaries on most of the episodes by cast members, writers, and directors–including Joss Whedon. Due out December 9th, 2003 and priced at $37.49 (a saving of $12.49–25% off) and includes free shipping under the Super Saver Shipping option, this boxed DVD set is a must have for all current and future fans of Joss Whedon’s very first sci-fi series. Note, the DVDs are encoded for Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only) and will probably not be viewable in other countries (except with a computer). To pre-order your set, you can go here.

Something cool for Christmas!

Firefly will fly again; more details

rickyjames
writes,
Filmforce has an interview up
with Joss Whedon and
the last page talks about the future of Firefly…which
includes a super-duper DVD set release this Fall and
apparently high probability of a big-screen movie. Keep
flying.
You’ll want to hit the “continue” link at the bottom
right away if you don’t want to see a Tomb Raider ad
before reading the interview. The DVD set and movie
announcement are older news, but there’s a lot of
interesting stuff (including a few more details) in this
interview than we had before.
